Our research efforts explore ways to advance geotechnical engineering analysis, design and construction through intelligent systems development. The construction of embankments, dams, foundations, bridges, utilities and tunnels is critical to performance and is inextricably linked to analysis and design. Our research focuses on improving sensing and monitoring of geoconstruction processes, and extracting new and valuable information from sensed data. This information can be used to develop and apply control algorithms to improve geoconstruction methods and can be used to improve analysis and design (e.g., on-the-fly design). Given the complex uncertainty of the earth's subsurface, we aim to significantly advance geoconstruction by improved on-the-fly sensing and adapting to handle the complex environment. The People and Projects links summarize who we are and what we're currently working on.
